I meet a man everyday
who insists there is no occupation.
He’s there.
At work denying and at school not asking
and resting on שבת not wondering.
Millions under military rule.
Military power closes gates
and opens wounds.
Power is power on this side and that.
We have it and we have none,
we chant together.
Stand up, resist, raise a fist, but
don’t mention the word
it hurts and doesn’t line up
with the thread I’m on.
It’s there. An olive tree
And Rashid Khalidi
It’s the only democracy
in the Middle East
maybe even the world, created by people
and the UN.
But, he tells me, the UN can’t make a state.
“But what about…?” cut off
“Not anymore,” he says.
“Move on”
To where?
